submuscular implant placement.

Submuscular implant placement was originally performed on women who needed full breast reconstruction. Some surgeons use this placement for breast augmentation. The implant is placed under the pectoralis muscle as in the subpectoral placement, but the outer and lower edges of the implant are covered by the serratus muscles and the rectus abdominus fascia. Fascia is the thin and tough transparent cover that wraps muscles and extends beyond them.
